This David Winter cottage is the home of a lock-keeper. A lock-keeper was responsible for operating a lock, a mechanism for raising and lowering barges to travel between stretches of canal with differing water levels.
Lock-keepers' cottages were often built by the same people who excavated the waterways and built the tunnels. This cottage therefore features a barrel-shaped roof, built using the same concepts as a tunnel.
This cottage was introduced in 1988 and retired in 1997. It measures 3.5" high and comes in the original box with certificate of authenticity.
