This sculpture is from David Winter's Midlands Collection. It was introduced in 1988 and retired in 1994. An earlier 1983 version exists, known simply as "Derbyshire Mill", which does not include the 3 ridges around the chimney stack.
This building is typical of the British cotton industry in the late 18th century. The tall chimney would release the smoke from the furnaces of the steam-powered machinery. Derbyshire was the location of Richard Arkwright's first cotton mill, Cromford Mill, in 1771, which revolutionized the cotton industry.
Measuring 8.25" tall, this sculpture comes in the original box with certificate of authenticity.
